Winter Racing By Erick Rowsell

I spent last winter racing in the National Cyclo Cross Trophy series. I really enjoyed racing cyclo cross during the winter and I learnt a lot from doing a full cyclo cross season. My main aims for the winter were the National Trophy races and the National Championships. I finished 6th overall in the National Trophy series so I was pleased with that result. As for the National Championships lets just say it didn't really go to plan and I ended up finishing 10th which wasn't really a bad result but I was hoping to do better. I also competed in a few London league events across the winter and I won the 11th round and the 13th round of the London league and finished in the top 3 in all the other rounds I competed in. At the end of the season I had one last big race left which was the National Team Championships in which I was riding for the London A Team. I finished 4th in this race and the London A Team came first overall so we were all really pleased with that result and we regained the trophy for another year.

As well as competing in cyclo cross events during the winter I was also attending a number of Olympic Talent Team selection camps and at the start of this year I was offered a place on the program. I was really pleased about this as I now have the opportunity to attend lots more training camps and it will give me lots of new opportunities.

Now that the cyclo cross season has finished I am looking to the summer. I will be competing in road and track races this summer. I will also be racing abroad as much as possible and I have 4 races in Belgium planned for March so hopefully they will be a good start to my season.
