Results Round-up

Since negotiating with Sutton Grammar School the use of part of its sports grounds in Cheam as a regular base, Sutton CC/De Ver Cycles has benefited by a huge influx of new members, some of whom are gradually getting into racing. As the 2009/10 cyclo-cross season gets under way, the Club looks back on the last year of competition, in which our younger riders were particularly successful.

SE Go-Ride Interclub Competition

Eighteen Club riders of different ages rode in this competition, which consisted of eight rounds in various cycling disciplines. Several riders gained podium places in various events, but best results were:

  • Gemma Heath: (actually still Under 8), 1st U10 Girl in 6 rounds, and Series Winner
  • Josh Mead: 1st U10 Boy, Rd 7, Mountainbike
  • Aidan Woolven: 1st U12 Boy, Rd 6, Track Omnium

2008/9 Cyclo-cross season

  • Wilf Sinclair: 2nd, U16 Boys SE Regional CX Championships 5th U16 Boy in series, London Cyclo Cross League

Southern XC Mountainbike Series

  • Gemma Heath: Series Winner, Under 10 Girls, with three clear wins.
  • Adrian Dreyer: Series Winner, Under 10 Boys. A new member, his solid results over the six races of the series (two podium and four top ten places) earned him 248 points and overall first place.

London Youth Games

Club members again formed the team for London Borough of Sutton in the 2009 London Youth Games. All except one were riding above their normal age group, and the team came a creditable 8th out of the 29 Boroughs competing in the cycling event. Riding as Juniors (Under 18s) were Jack Haining, Oliver Greenwood, Aidan Woolven and Tom Wadsworth, while Andrew Bradshaw, Dylan Wymer and Jack Wills rode as Juveniles (Under 16s).

Crystal Palace Summer League (Road Circuit)

Over the season twelve club riders of various ages competed at Crystal Palace. Best results were:

  • Aidan Woolven: Under 12 Boys Series Winner, with 8 first, 5 second and 1 third place.
  • Wilf Sinclair: once 1st, twice 2nd and four times 3rd Under 16 Boy
  • Gemma Heath: twice 1st Under 8 Girl
  • Lewis Heritage: twice 2nd Under 8 Boy
  • Jack Haining: once 2nd U16 Boy, once 2nd in 3rd/4th Cat adult race
  • Max Haining: two podium places (2nd & 3rd), Under 12 Boys
  • Charlie Runcorn: one 3rd place, Under 16 Boys
  • Charles Parkinson: twice 3rd in 3rd/4th Cat adult race

BC National/Regional Events

  • Aidan Woolven entered his first National Championships (road circuit) in July and was placed 5th Under 12 Boy. He also took 5th place in the Preston Park Regional Track Omnium.
