Hilly 50K Saturday 5th March.

A group of nine riders from Sutton CC headed into the North Downs to ride the first road sportif of 2011. The ride was organised by the CTC and consisted of a 50Km route starting and ending at Box Hill, with six major climbs. 150 riders took part it total.

The riding was good and the weather stayed dry and not too cold - we even saw the sun for a while!

One puncture was the only incident, and on the descent into Dorking after the first climb, we were cheered on by riders out with the club's touring group.

We took just over 4 hrs to complete the 36mile route, climbing 1100 ft to the highest summit, but climbing a massive 3400 ft during the ride. The final ride up the Zig Zag road to the top of box hill was a welcome sight.

Strange why a ride on the downs has so many ups!!!
